The Mighty Yellowsky

Hailing from Nêhiyāw & Chiléan bloodlines - Yellowsky (Born Roberto Andrés Pooyak) is arguably one of the most prominent, important Indigenous recording artists rocking in Canada at any given time. Originally from the Sweetgrass First Nation (Treaty 6 Territory), he was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada. Performing across the country since 2008, he is the 1st solo Indigenous Reggae artist in North American history.

His flow to massive, bottom end-heavy beats pay homage to the grimy city life of the most classic of hip-hop music while his elastic, malleable delivery harken to the traditions of both classic Jamaican deejaying mixed with more modern MC styles. The end result is a vocal, lyrical and musical blend rarely ever seen. Utterly unique, almost mystic in it's own vibe on stage. There's a real rebellious and spiritual nature that fuels Yellowsky's music. "I was raised by residential school survivors - my late mom, my aunties, uncles," he explains. Although learning his background more as he grew, he would rise fatherless. His dad was one of many who retreated from the grip of politics during the 80's in Chilé. "This isn't JUST music," remarks Yellowsky on his unruly nature. As a former affiliate, addict & inmate, he has gained his status within the streets through his most hardest times. A sequence breaker of intergenerational trauma, Yellowsky rose past the limits, currently becoming a measure of inspiration along the way.

His first album, "Mixed Medicine," earned a 'Best New Artist' nomination at the 2018 Indigenous Music Awards and the 'Best Indigenous Artist' nomination at the Saskatchewan Music Awards the same year without any major marketing. He's opened up for the likes of legendary reggae artist Clinton Fearon, Hawaii's Mike Love and Australia’s Saritah as well as mainstream artists like Madchild, Hopsin, MGK, Riff Raff, his cousin, Joey Stylez and legendary native rapper, Hellnback - just to name a few. After a 5 year hiatus, the veteran returned in 2022 on The Steadies recent release, "TRIKETRA," while working closely with the band and their front man, Earl Pereira. He is currently developing his 2nd album for 2023/2024 after dropping his latest single, “Redemption Point” earlier this year as he moves forward into a new era on his journey.
